Important Coronavirus Update from Rev. Ann

Dear Friends

You will no doubt have been following the developments of coronavirus.

Yesterday the government announced that “Now is the time for everyone to stop non essential social contact and travel”.  Furthermore, they have advised those with existing vulnerabilities, pregnant women and the over 70s to self isolate. These measure are likely to be in place for at least 12 weeks.

While we appreciate that regular corporate worship is an important part of life for many of us, in this exceptional situation the Ministry team and Church Wardens believe (in conjunction with guidance just issued by our archbishops) that the correct response for our church community is to suspend our current pattern of worship, events and meetings with immediate effect.

We hope that in the midst of this difficult situation we will be able to respond creatively and find new ways to live out our faith in our community;

For our church is not just a beautiful building.  Our church is not just Sunday worship.  Our church is you. And me. Together we are church. People filled with the love of God. Together we are the Body of Christ. And when one part suffers we all suffer.

So let us remain united in our endeavour to worship God, serve our community, and care for one another.

In the days to come we will begin to work out some practical strategies for doing these things. Please let us know if you would like to be involved in this.

The Church will remain open for prayer. We recognise that many of us find solace in sacred spaces. (Although we will be asking people to maintain the recommended distance from one another, and also to wash or sanitise their hands as they enter and leave).

We’ll be sending out further information and updates as these develop. Please do pick up the phone to one another and get in touch if you have any queries or concerns.

I am finding a quote from the first female Bishop in the Anglican communion, Bishop Barbara Harris, helpful in all of this:

“Remember that the God behind us is bigger than the problem ahead of us.”

Go well everyone.

May you know the depth and width of God’s love this day.

Ann
