At Holy Trinity we are inviting everyone to respond to the needs of Syrian refugees in four ways:
Pray for refugees and those who make decisions for them.
Write to our MPs and local Councillors urging them to help.
- Give material support.
So how can I do that?
1. Pray this prayer daily::
you are the source of all goodness, generosity and love.
We thank you for opening the hearts of many
to those who are fleeing for their lives.
Help us now to open our arms in welcome,
and reach out our hands in support.
That the desperate may find new hope,
and lives torn apart be restored.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, Our Lord,
who fled persecution at His birth
and at His last triumphed over death.
2. Write - Here are some guidelines in as to what you might like to include in a letter to your MP and/or local councillor:
3. Give financially - Please take one of the pink ‘Us’ gift Aid envelopes from church, and bring it back by Sunday 4 October. All money raised will go to the ‘Us’ Rapid response Appeal supporting the Church’s response to refugees arriving in Greece and Hungary.
4. Give materially - Please bring donations of winter clothing, sleeping bags and tents to Holy Trinity Church by Thursday 24 September. This will from part of a collection from other churches and synagogues in Northwood, and will be sent to refugees in Calais.
Prayer for the refugees
Lord God of wilderness, wave and wind,
you travel with the wanderers of the world.
Stay close, we pray, to all who live
with loss, in terror, and adrift,
and spur us on to build a world
where there is truly room for all.
Lord Jesus, you came among us
homeless, and as a refugee.
Shake our complacency,
rekindle our compassion,
and help us challenge our leaders
to forge a common strategy
that is both truly just, and fair.
